I had two great photography teachers. One was a Distinguished Professor and one was a Yale graduate with a master's in Photography. While they both had great qualities, I want to focus on the latter. She developed her own course in photography that focused on historical writings on photography, historical figures in photography and included contemporary photographers! Jen McDermott challenged us in a way I had not been challenged before! Literature isn't my strong suit--I am a visual learner, and this class had me floored. But what I remember most about this class is the excursions to Boston, MA and Providence, RI to attend lectures by photographers. In particular, I was affected by the film Thin by Lauren Greenfield.
